Food And Drug Administration (FDA): Why is the FDA not worried about the pills sold on late night tv?
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is supposedly there to protect consumers against impurities in our food and false claims of medical miracles in our pharmaceuticals. Yet, today the FDA seems more concerned with prohibiting my access to cheaper prescription drugs through the internet. They seem to have no problem with someone on late night television and radio that is selling me a pill to make that certain part of my anatomy bigger. Another commercial offers a pill that will increase my memory, warding off Alzheimer's. The other day another commercial for yet a different pill with antioxidants that attach themselves to one particular molecule in my body was aired on radio. This is bullshit and it is not even good science. Yet, these people are able to make thousands of dollars on airwaves that are controlled by the federal government selling snake oil. These promises are often empty and more times than not, they leave consumers with large bills and no results. What if you have a terminal illness? Would the FDA allow a company to sell a pill that offers a cure in a single dose for cancer on late night television? If we question that, shouldn't we question them all? How is this different from the snake oil salesmen of the past that traveled in caravans during the 1840's? The methods have changed but the message remains the same.

I'm tired of hearing Republican criticism of the Obama Administration when he is only 45 days into his Presidency. The Rush Limbaugh's, Sean Hannity's, and the Bill O'Reiley's of the world tell us that they are praying for him to fail. If he fails, we fail, the world fails...and we all go back to the Middle Ages. People seem to forget that George Bush Junior was the first to give away 800 billion dollars to save the banking system from total collapse. This happened during the last month of Bush's administration and Obama has inherited a huge huge problem. Whether giving huge sums of money to the financial institutions that created the crisis that we are in is a wise move, it will be years before we know the truth. So whether Barack Obama is on the correct path, or not is a moot point. Something has to be tried. I would rather see Barack Obama, who is an intelligent man, try to fix the problem then to have another old gray haired man sitting in the Oval Office saying that he thinks everything is fine...at least for his friends. Fidel Castro and Cuba: Can we please allow travel into Cuba?
Fidel Castro has survived nine American Presidents. It's now time to put aside our idealogical differences with Cuba and allow Free Trade and Travel into Cuba. There is no point in punishing the Cuban people for the sins of Fidel Castro. We allow trade, outsourcing of our manufacturing jobs, travel, and business with China, a communist country with questionable human rights practices. My god, we have even borrowed half the money to save our banks and finance our wars from China. They are bank rolling America at this point. Why not Cuba? The fact that Cuba has a lower infant mortality rate than the U.S. tells us that Fidel Castro has done something right. Could it be socialized medicine? Let's hope this happens soon, so that people like myself and others can freely travel to Cuba to jam with the local musicians and have a Cuba Libre (Rum, Coke, and Lime) on the beach!
